Born to an Italian Mother and Ukrainian Father I was brought up in Halifax and after travelling extensively to discover my roots I finally settled in Halifax. I live in Sowerby Bridge with my partner, and our latest addition Louis (as in Pasteur, King and Armstrong!), my beautiful son born in 2008.

I started my career working in Residential care, first with people with learning difficulties then with looked after children. After some management training and briefly co-managing a care home for excluded children I decided to go to college and qualified as a Counsellor and Groupworker, which led me to agency work covering most aspects of social care and eventually to the Information Shop for Young People. I have worked at the Information Shop for Young People for almost 6 years now and have been the manager for almost 5 of those years.

The Information Shop works with young people up to the age of 25. We specialise in issues around sexual health and support young people on almost anything that affects their lives. If we can't help then we would know who could. We also work very closely with GALYIC and host their weekly drop in. I am currently studying to be a Naturopath (after I realised I was never g oing to be a Doctor!!) of which I have had a lifetimes interest in and am loving it. I love to cycle and am a great fan of the outdoors, I particularly like to ride pillion on my partners Victory motorbike, slowly of course!!

I'm retired now, as of 2007. Before that, I was nine years teaching in secondary schools, then over thirty as a careers adviser in schools and careers centres.I was married as a young man, but came out and now have the most wonderful man in the world as my civil partner. I learned a lot from being straight and a lot from being gay; we never stop learning if we allow it to happen.

I enjoy walking, and am a walk leader for Todmorden Walkabout, a group which promotes walking for health. I am also a volunteer with the Refugee Council in Leeds.

For the past 4 years, I have had the pleasure of being the link personal adviser from Calderdale & Kirklees Careers to Galyic. For most of that time I've attended the weekly youth group, but with changes to my work commitments, I am now 'just' a board member. I think all parties, Galyic, myself, C&K Careers and the young people who come to the group, have benefited from what will hopefully continue to be an example of really good collaborative work and support.

I have recently relocated to Todmorden from Northampton, my home town, where I was a founding member of the Northamptonshire Lesbian, Gay & Bisexual Alliance, and its Director of Operations for the last 4 years. During my time in Northampton since coming out, I have served on various LGBT forums & committees, and more recently on the County Strategic Hate Crime Committee, and the CPS Hate Crime Scrutiny Panel.

Despite only being in Tod for a few months, I am becoming actively involved in local LGBT organisations, and as well as the GALYIC Board, I am a member of the West Yorkshire Police Homophobic & Disableist Incident Scrutiny Panel, and the Calderdale LGBT Network.

I am currently singing in the Manchester Lesbian & Gay Chorus, and additionally am looking forward to joining the Todmorden Choral Society.
