Galyic Actions to Challenge Homophobic Bullying
Homophobic bullying was identified as a problem in the original research conducted with young lesbian, gay and bisexual people in Calderdale in 1998 and over the years GALYIC have tried different ways to get the authorities and schools to stop it. These have included:- Producing 'Challenging Homophobic Bullying in Schools in Calderdale'.
- Holding meetings with the police.
- Providing training for Victim Support.
- Becoming a Third-Party Reporting Centre.
- Giving a presentation to the Board of Governors at one school.
- Giving a presentation to the Calderdale Children and Young People's Scrutiny Panel.
- Giving a presentation to the Healthy Schools Network.
- Members giving a presentation to two school sixth forms.
- Getting involved in Calderdale's Anti-Bullying Strategy.
- Members giving a presentation at the launch of Calderdale's Anti-Bullying Strategy.
- Member talking about horrendous experiences of homophobic bullying at relaunch of Calderdale's Hate Crime Reporting Centres.
- Members giving a presentation to the Calderdale Children's Trust.
- Members giving a presentation to the Calderdale Association of School Governors Board.
- Members giving a presentation to the Children and Young People's Scrutiny Panel.
