Older Members

The age of coming out has dropped significantly since GALYIC began in 1999. The average age of GALYIC members dropped to 17 years.

The needs of teenagers are different to young adults. Because of this GALYIC changed the upper age limit for those using the youth group, drop-in and on-line forum to 21 years. This also applied to the annual residential and occasional activities such as go-karting.

There were still young adults aged between 22 and 25 years who were coming out and needed support which is why all of GALYIC's other services were still open to them, but the main support for this age group was on a one-to-one basis.

GALYIC were looking at introducing a new Youth Volunteering Scheme, for those older members who wanted to put something back into GALYIC. And, of course, older members could still join the Member Presentation Group.
