Originating from the Yorkshire Dales and migrated to Hebden Bridge in 1994 via Sheffield and London and am now in Todmorden. After studying Business Studies I started my career at Yorkshire Television as a researcher for the advertising and sales department, moving onto programme and radio research until I became disillusioned with the world of media and started voluntary work at Craven Voluntary Action whilst working with older people and adults with learning difficulties.

I have now worked in voluntary sector project management and community development since 1991, the majority of that time in Calderdale. I have set up, developed and managed a range of projects including a volunteer bureau, a family centre, Crossley Mill Children's Centre in Hebden Bridge, a Young Carers Support Service, supported and worked with a range of community groups to enable them to access funding, manage themselves and develop their organisations. I have also served on management committees for the CAB, youth projects, family centres and out of school schemes with responsibility for personnel issues and planning.

I worked for Gay and Lesbian Youth in Calderdale from 2003 to its closure in 2011. During this time I helped it to become a charity and a company limited by guarantee. I was responsible for developing policies and for all things financial and strategic including funding. It was with great sadness that we were forced to close Gay and Lesbian Youth in Calderdale in 2011.
